Here's information on our past concerts...
...was our last concert series held March 7t & 9th, 2008. We're now in rehearsal for our Spring Concert series "Poems to God" set for Friday May 9th 2008 (8:00 p.m. - St. Paul's Church, Salinas) & Sunday May 11th 2008 (3:00 p.m. - First United Methodist Church in Pacific Grove.) "Faith, Hope, Love" featured music written for chorus and string quartet, as well as a cappella repertoire. “I’m very excited about the unique combination of pieces for this concert,” says Camerata's Music Director John Koza. "This pastiche of choral standards alongside new settings will be quite engaging.” The program includes two settings of Ave verum corpus by William Byrd and Mozart; Beautiful River by William Hawley; I Can Tell the World by Moses Hogan and Randall Thompson’s lovely Alleluia, Maurice Duruflé’s timeless setting of Ubi caritas; When You Are Old by John Kelley; Five Hebrew Love Songs by Eric Whitacre and Beethoven’s Elegischer gesang (Elegy), Op. 118; and a compelling modern composition Nocturne, by American composer Adolphus Hailstork and more. As with our past March Concerts, Camerata Singers is pleased to include a select group of high school students participating in the concert as our "Camerata Futures" students. The "Futures" program was started by Camerat Singers to provide high school students the opportunity to rehearse and perform advanced choral literature with us. Our students this year are no exception to the rule, they are all accomplished choral singers in their own right and add a wonderful new level of performance to our concerts. Our Friday concert will be held March 7th, 2008 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Salinas at 8:00 pm and Sunday, March 9th, 2008 at First United Methodist Church in Pacific Grove at 3:00 pm. Carmel: Pilgrim’s Way; King City: The UPS Store; Pacific Grove: Bookmark; Salinas: Gadsby’s Music Co. For more information, call 831.642.2701

Our March 2007 Winter Concert Series, Copland & Bernstein, For this concert series, our conductor, John Koza was featured in an article written by Barbara Shuler. Ms. Shuler writes "Intermezzo" in the Monterey County Herald, a Monterey County print newspaper which chronicles classical music. Click here to read her article about John. This year marked the 7th anniversary of the Camerata Futures program, where auditioned high school singers are invited to sing with the Camerata Singers. This year five singers representing four high schools have been accepted into the program. They were: Rachel Lowery (Pacific Grove High School); Sidney Penisini and Jorge Torrez (Salinas High School); Sabrina Brett (Santa Catalina School); Stephanie Johnson (York School). The Camerata Futures program is designed to mentor young singers in singing significant major choral works with orchestral accompaniment. We believe participation by these high school students encourages their future participation in performing arts as both performers and audience members. In fact, Robin (Robbie) Russell, a past member of the Camerata Futures program, is now a full-fledged member of our group.
The Camerata Singers have been celebrating their 25th anniversary this year in many other ways. Marking our 25th anniversary, we commissioned three pieces: San Francisco composer Kirke Mechem wrote for us a lovely setting of Dona Nobis Pacem (Grant us peace) which we sang in our May 2005. Monterey native Nathanael Pangrazio gave us the lovely Absalom Fili Mi (Absalom my son) which we sang in March 2006 with the Mozart Requiem. This past May, 2006 we performed the world premiere of I Do Not Wish You Joy Without A Sorrow, by Jeffrey H. Rickard, Director of Choral Activities at University of Redlands in southern California. It has been our privilege and our joy to celebrate our 25th anniversary by supporting choral composers in the commissioning of these new compositions.
