CAMERATA SINGERS FOUNDERDr. Vahé Aslanian, 1918 - 2008In the 1580's, a literary, philosophical and artistic society known as the Florentine Camerata met in the salon of Giovanni de' Bardi in Florence, Italy, to discuss the music of Greek antiquity. Other members included Pietro Strozzi, and the musicians Vincenzo Galilei (Galileo's father) and Giulio Caccini. The Camerata Singers, like their namesakes, rehearsed each week in the Camera di Musica, in the home of their founder and Conductor Emeritus, Dr. Vahé Aslanian, from 1980 until his retirement in 1999. Today, the Camerata Singers are proud to perform throughout Monterey County. |
