Our May concert series, “Duruflé Requiem” Our May program was based on Chant, the earliest western music, preserved by monks and nuns either in monasteries and universities. Throughout history many composers have taken original lines of chant and woven them into beautiful motets.
The concert repertoire included three motets by Anton Bruckner; Kyrie by Knut Nystedt; two settings of Ave Maria in Russian by Rachmaninoff and Camerata Singer Jeff DeMarco and the Quatre motets by Maurice Duruflé. The second half of the program presents the Duruflé Requiem and features organist Tiffany Truett Bedner.
”It is inspiring to hear a high caliber of singers who devote their time and effort for the sake of beautiful music. And the Duruflé Requiem is one of the most beautiful choral pieces ever written. Well done, Mr. Koza!“ Read the rest of Roben McKee Williams' review on Lyn Bronson's “Peninsula Reviews” here.
Sorry you missed us? We are too, but follow this link to a youtube version of Bogoroditse Devo arranged by our own Jefferson DeMarco.

What did our audience think about the second installment of Koza's tenth anniversary season, featuring our our last concert “For the Masses”?
”After the rousing concert opening, the ensemble gave us one of the loveliest renditions of Mozart's haunting Ave Verum Corpus I have ever heard - They absolutely had me right from the very first note. The singers maintained a blended, balanced, and full sound throughout, and made the composition seem entirely all too brief. Arthur Schnabel once said that Mozart's music is “too easy for children and too difficult for adults,” and the Ave verum corpus is a good example. Its simplicity can be utterly moving, but only when sung with the discipline and love that I heard from the Camerata Singers throughout this entire concert.“

"A Spotless Rose"

"Koza is never one to shy away from challenging his singers with music that is difficult and rewarding, both for performers and for the audience ...kudos to Koza and the Camerata Singers for the "rose" they are! Want to read more about our most recent concert, "A Spotless Rose?"Here's Reg's take on our Spotless Rose Concert!
"It’s nice to go to a concert and know ahead of time that you will not be disappointed. This is the continuing legacy that the Camerata Singers, led by John Koza, has built for itself since its inception in 1980."

"Music for the Soul,
Food for the Bowl!"
This past Holiday Season Camerata Singers paired with the Food Bank of Monterey County. At each of our concert venues we
had a Food Bank of Monterey County food donation box to collect food for distribution to needy Monterey County families. Our audience members helped us help others by bringing
a donation of non-perishable food to spread the holiday cheer a little farther this year. We intend this to be only the beginning of a long-standing tradition. |
Wondering about our concert "Winter Travels"? Our performance was met with many compliments on the ensemble's blend. Please read Reg Huston's excellent (if we do say so ourselves!) review. The music, performance and experience is as good as Reg makes it sound.

CAMERATA FUTURES AUDITIONS: High school students interested in
performing with the Camerata
Singers in our March, 2010 concerts
are encouraged to schedule an audition
by calling 624.2701. Auditions are
held in November and December. The
Camerata Futures program, now in its
10th year, allows high school singers
to rehearse with the ensemble in January,
February and March, culminating
in our March concerts.
A local music
educator wrote, “Students who participate
in your program become leaders
in their high school choir. They serve
as section leaders, officers and role
models.” We are very proud to offer
this program, at no cost, to local high
school singers. We are especially proud
to welcome Rachel Lowery (bottom left) as an
active member of Camerata Singers!
